this is for you, poster nerds
This New Yorker piece on How Posters Became Art is so excellent and not just because it’s the perfect subtweet of a link to send that roommate/boyfriend/co-worker in your life who’s confused owning a Che Guevara/Woodstock/The Smiths poster with having a personality…though that’ll def. do the trick. But it’s also a smart, critical look at posters as a medium that exists at the intersection of business and art (sound familiar?), and how weird it is that something destined to be ephemeral can end up as this weird trophy of personal taste (also familiar?? cc: everyone displaying a 7-month old New Yorker meaningfully on their coffee table).
And while you’re pondering posters as a medium for the masses, you should definitely read about how Hong Kong protesters have figured out how to deliver their message on a grand scale to visitors from mainland China: via AirDrop! Is it frameable? No. Is it subversive as hell? You bet.
(P.S. Just realized we’ve been hitting you with allll the Asian-authored and -centric links this week, but you know what?? Unlike the rest of the #msm, we at Deez Links don’t need a designated special month or feature package in order to veer off the white culture discourse!! it’s just gonna happen AT RANDOM can u believe??)
