The lit shot, explained
Look, we’ll be the first to admit that whenever our supremely writerly media peers out there post those cute little tweets about their book deals, we just assume the screenshot of said announcement is from like…….some mysterious Olde Book Deal Society where they initiate you only if you’ve been adequately blurbed and inducted at Books Are Magic……..but it turns out that the “lit shot” is SUCH a thing, and it usually comes from one of two paywalled book industry websites, according to this very enlightening BuzzFeed News investigation.
Not sure about you, but this answered some very important questions for us (why are the screenshots so mobile-unfriendly??? What is the difference between a “nice” deal and a “very nice” deal???), and also shed some light on the fine art of self promotion that’s only moderately thirsty in this harrowing age of non-attention.
