Coming to you from the intersection of suits, strollers, and “HIPSTERS EVERYWHERE”
Today we’re obsessed with this site, hoodmaps.com, (okay okay, specifically the New York City neighborhoods one). It’s basically a crowd-sourced, crowd-edited “love child of Google Maps and Urban Dictionary” that lets you draw on the map and label which neighborhood has the aggro strollers, which park has “LOTS OF DOGS” (important), and what areas are the seventh circle of tourist hell, etc.
It’s a fun and snarky site overall, but the functionality and “upvote/downvote” tools involved are kind of neat and just portend lots of possibilities for using Google Maps in even more interesting ways. Zoom in and out for as much detail as you want, and then go back to the main site to explore other cities around the world and all the generalizations / gentrification levels they’ve incited.
