Trend alert: the frosty aloof Miranda Priestly thing is over. We are now in the Elaine Era — as in, Elaine Welteroth, the comprehensively cool editor-in-chief and “refashionista” making Teen Vogue one of the most exciting and socially conscious voices in digital media right now: see this long-awaited New York Times treatment as the official proclamation.
As the youngest-ever EIC at the Condé machine — and only the second black woman to hold the title — Welteroth is the boldest, brightest proof yet of how diversity & fresh-faced thinking in the highest ranks of leadership can lead to a full-out renaissance. Is our vigorous fangirling catching on yet, or do I need to bring out her casual-partying-with-DeRay-Mckesson-in-a-fur-coat-fabulous Instagram as my closing argument here??
