When the planet’s actively melting, which specific stories about climate change end up actually getting the cover story treatment? That’s the question that the Washington Post Magazine flipped on its head with its all-cover issue for Earth Day: a magazine edition containing 24 “covers” created for major climate change stories The Post has in the past year.

Sure, it’s a magazine designer’s dream of a very visual issue, but this move is also a clever way to reuse/recycle relevant “old” stories and recontextualize them with the kind of urgency and gravitas that a magazine cover automatically lends. We’re super curious what fraction of the audience becomes actually motivated to then look up the full stories online, but overall this move is as splashy and visually appealing as a reminder that we’re still fucked could get.
