Waking up with Mikey Barb >>>

An illogical combo of bad hearing but also a superstitious fear of turning up earbud volume past the halfway mark has made me a longtime podcast Scrooge, but I’ve begun to drink the Kool-Aid, starting with what seemed like the smallest possible commitments. Which is how I came across The Daily; now I can’t fathom putting the face on in the morning without the soothing dulcet tones of its podcast host, Michael Barbaro.

For other non-audio-believers, The Daily is the perfect starter podcast — the easygoing 20-ish-minute format makes for great breakfast companionship and a non-aggressively newsy start to the day. This New Yorker piece offers the perfect appreciation of how Barbaro’s personality and brand of “emo softness” makes it work, though tbh, his fun outfits are pretty compelling unto themselves.
