Vogueing & video shorts
There’s a huge chance you kept up with last night’s Met Gala not on E! News nor by on some desktop website experience, but on Instagram. As the highly aspirational and visual platform of most celebs’ choice, it was the smart & fitting choice for publishers to invest in blanket coverage of the event, from The Met’s own Insta story to Vogue’s Live video interviews.
But let’s hone in on Vogue: It would have been easy to ride Anna Wintour’s coattails and phone it in with the usual slideshow (which, thanks to their consistent and painstaking attention to credit nearly all designers in the captions, is still great).
Instead, the legaciest of legacy fashion mags got creative with video shorts and produced a series of these “music videos” starring your faves (the Kards, Saint Rihanna, and Ariana, to name a few) dancing around The Met.
I’m dying to know how long these video shorts took to shoot and produce, and I love the resulting effect of bringing the viewer inside the event + turning the otherwise buttoned-up affair into something more fun. In other words **borat voice**: great shortform video content success!
