I love me a good Ed Yong piece — if you’re into swimming dinosaurs and coral reefs and zombie fungi, check out his work for Famlantic — because he always makes these kind of obscure studies into something that peels back the curtain on how truly ~wondrous~ and not literal/figurative flame-scorched the world can be.
The latest case in point: The Desirability of Storytellers, which turns an anthropology lesson on hunter-gatherer societies into a link destined to be shared amongst cuffing season hopefuls and media types alike. Though perhaps the findings shouldn’t be so shocking — back before Netflix, we all had to have something to do to pass the time in between smash seshes. Hunting down sexual harassers hadn’t quite been invented yet, either. 😁
