the revolution will covered in Teen Vogue
BRB POLE-VAULTING TO BARNES & NOBLE to get a copy of the newest (and one of the last! 😱 😱 😱 ) Teen Vogue print issues, which I’m just gonna screencap from EIC Elaine Welteroth’s Instagram here:
From her letter-from-the-editor, in the caption:
“On the anniversary of the election, as we continue forging ahead in the fight for equality and basic human rights, we pay tribute. Hillary Clinton may not have broken the tallest glass ceiling in America—but one of you will. And you will be standing on the shoulders of women leaders like HRC whose story unlocks universal lessons in determination, survival, and resilience.
This (very) special issue of @teenvogue GUEST-EDITED BY HRC [emphasis by Deez] explores what we can all learn from her impact, her style, and her grace under fire. Some will say it’s too partisan, too retrospective, too “echo-chamber-y.” This issue isn’t for them. It was designed for the millions of YOU who acknowledge that until women, girls, people of color, members of the LGBTQ community, immigrants, and the economically disadvantaged are on an equal playing field, we must hold space for these conversations and for platforms like this to exist.”
You guys. YOU GUYS. I’m scream-sobbing and just imagining what reading something like this would have been like as a wobbly AF 14-year-old, unsure of her #worth in this world. And honestly, fuck anyone in 2017 who thinks “women’s media” and “teen media” is anything less than tantamount to the national conversation. It makes it all the more a travesty that Teen Vogue’s print edition is shutting down, but if the rabid earnestness of teen girls and the cultural power they’ve been perfecting will flourish anywhere from here, it’s online.
**Update: Barnes & Noble did not have any copies as apparently per the fine ~print,~ this issue will go on newsstands on Dec. 5. HOLD PLEASE.
