The revolution will be Google Doc’d
By now, you have heard about the Shitty Media Men Google Doc* — a crowdsourced burn book that circulated post-Weinstein bombshell few weeks ago, anonymously naming men in the industry and their alleged shitty behavior.
It’s turned into a giant total clusterfuck that everyone & their mother & their roommate has some thoughts about (tl;dr, it’s not posted anywhere, nor have I seen it personally), but I love this piece by Ann Friedman, which takes a small step back from the internet UFC fight over The List, and looks at the peculiar medium that made it possible: the Google Doc.
Friedman makes some interesting points on — especially in this Trump age of new activism — the roles of community, sharing and the formats we use. I.e., in terms of ethics and also just plain logistics, how do we share sensitive information today, in a time of social platforms and dwindling privacy and digital everything?
*Technically I think it was a Sheet, but let’s all recognize there are bigger fish to fry out there rn.
