You raise really good points and what strikes me about this is that political reporters are an awfully cynical type, and this mess is going about in the most cynical way possible, so it makes sense that the gossip is being truly regulated to the "independent" not particularly edited/fact checked sources & it's the substack machine benefitting? At this point it feels like gawking at a seamy, smug car crash that played its role in hurting and killing American people thanks to RFK Jr's current level of power over the health care system, and personally, its awful to see when one is dealing with a shit chronic diagnosis. At the end of the day I doubt it's selling any books, but I have a feeling Nuzzi will have a second act.

if they were talented singers, musicians, and songwriters, they could be the 2020's answer to Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.

At what point do we all start to openly accept that narcissists are endlessly gonna use the full extent of manipulation tools at their disposal to feed/create their own emotional needs and psychological narratives and to ever avoid any personal responsibility.

It's only recently dawned on me the extent to which narcissistic personalities have long weaponized access journalism to carry out their martyrdom, gaslighting, projection, triangulation, and smear campaigns: but their manipulative instincts have ballooned out of control in an internet age (although arguably their ballooning is LESS effective).

Nuzzi's book was not a creative work of written prose, it was a performative vehicle via which to reclaim her narcissistic power that in her mind *others* had robbed her of.

Lilly Allen's mid-at-best new album is a similar act - in which which she drags the rest of us into her drama to help her regain her narcissistic power (to say nothing of deflecting responsibility from uprooting her kids away from their their dad while professing to be an amazing mother).

Fair question why this is happening on Substack but it's probably just because of the speed they're able to achieve. This is a Twitter fight with (somehow) even more words. But that stuff doesn't work on X and would miss the audience they actually want.

The feedme softball q and a was so sad. I was upset bc I like feedme so much I expected so much more. Perhaps they don’t want to face real questions so they are avoiding legacy media?
