TFW Teen Vogue is woke
As the media deals w/the aftershocks of last week’s tragic events (this NYT piece on the new, role in reluctant journalism that Facebook Live must serve is insane — remember when we were all like, oh idk like what is the point of livestreaming on FB??), it’s also important to note that ~mostly white~ media institutions reporting on black activism, police brutality and racial issues in general must always be consumed with a generous ass grain of salt.
‘Cause, yes, it’s crucial for mainstream media to report on these extremely important issues & perspectives, but like, an educated, informed, well-published journalist does NOT a white P.O.V. necessarily negate.
One example of this, noticed on Twitter:

Which leads us to the fact that, barring any real progress in newsroom/industry diversity, the role of black media is as important as ever — even as they struggle. Though, can we count Beyonce’s updated website as a new media outlet? Now that is a redesign for literal ~progress.~
