sometimes you just wanna see if anyone's cleaned up the trainwreck yet
Okay so we read that Esquire story on Gawker 2.0’s rise and fall and undeterred cling toward hope because sometimes you just wanna drive by the site of a ghastly trainwreck just see if anyone’s cleaned up all the wreckage still rusting on the ground.
Nothing terrifically juicy, but here are the most interesting bits:
Apparently, before Bryan Golderg bought the site, someone named Kevin wanted to buy it and turn it into “Gawker for Good” el oh I cannot emphasize this enough el
Thiiiiis quote from former Gawker staffer John Cook: “What’s the most depressing and dispiriting possible outcome of this whole sordid affair? And it would be someone like Bryan Goldberg trying to hump the corpse of something I once cared about.”
There’s one scene described simply to be set in “a blah meeting room” which honestly...we respect the poetry
If you need some ideas for a good diss, there are some real good quoted bits like “radioactive half-life” and “one grotesque irony after another” and “doomed, desperate zombie” to draw your inspo from
And finally, haven’t seen the Joker movie but there’s a part where BDG writes out a list of his personal experiences with rejection on a whiteboard so I feel like that counts….
