some seriousness 4 your thursday
By now, you’ve probably seen the photo of the little Syrian boy, Omran, sitting in the back of the ambulance following an airstrike in Aleppo — but it’s actually a still from a video, released by the Aleppo Media Center, that you should watch in full here.
I came across this on my Instagram today, and CNN’s video post cut caught my eye more than the stills. In light of the recent beef between CNN and BuzzFeed, the way CNN’s video post stood out had me thinking about how, legacy media/Nancy Grace purveyor/melodrama notwithstanding, CNN has really gotten their social game on, and aren’t going anywhere soon.
That’s a pretty tenuous conclusion to draw from such an enormously heartrending photo/video/situation/war, but hey, imma give you another: it’s mega goss-worthy to see who wins and who loses in the hunger games that is the media industry, but at the end of the day, everyone (well, most of everyone) is just tryna do the same damn thing — make sense of catastrophe, connect us with others, and inspire action.
Deez Links is out tomorrow — see ya Monday.
