some most unchill wikipedia behavior
Any time there’s remotely shady shit going down with powerful people’s Amazon wishlists, secret Instagram accounts, or other weird corners of internet use, you better believe Ashley Feinberg is ON IT, and her latest about how Facebook, Axios And NBC Paid This Guy To Whitewash Wikipedia Pages is just another excellent internet investigation on behavior that is Not Quite Totally Criminal But Like Also Not Terribly Cool, Like You Realize This, Right, Guys?
Apparently, there are services out there like WhiteHatWiki.com who consider themselves something of an Olivia Pope of Wikipedia, leveraging their know-how of the cryptic bylaws of Wikipedia editing and selling their services to help polish up certain pages of interest — including the NBC News page in the wake of the Weinstein expose, as well as Axios’s Jonathan Swan page, which got a nice little “awards & honors” section out of the deal. Again: not quite totally criminal, but like...not exactly chill, either?
