So mobile spending is up, and oh also we might all exist in The Sims World one day guys
Omg you guys: so yesterday was Mary Meeker Deck Day — aka when this mega boss analyst/investor in Silicon Valley publishes her annual report on the ~state of the internet~ and all of media pays attention (mostly because it’s where all the scary stats on the decline of print get come from each year).
The trusty NiemanLab tl;dr is here, but do yourself a favor and pull up the deck in all its 355-page glory, and just go straight to pages 149 and 150.
People, I am shooketh.
A little context: In past decks, Meeker has always devoted a healthy chunk to trends in online gaming and esports, and ya girl personally has always been like ???okay but gaming is boring* and unrelated to media and real world things??? and as such, would skip this part. But holy shit, is it just me or did Meeker just bequeath us with a revelation? AKA, that video games are actually practice for a future world where tech/A.I. rules everything, and human-computer interfacing is the norm??
Like be straight with me, Deezers. Am I just late to the game** here, or is this blowing your mind too?
*A belief founded 1000% from just being someone who is not good at games or sports of any kind.
**Lol sorry.
Like Deez Links? Forward to someone who'd be expert level at this v. hard and weird game we call life.
