so here's the tea on Salty
Ok so when everyone’s fave journalism frenemy Medium announced that they were launching a new food publication called Salty yesterday, it seemed like a noncontroversial & logical end result of the Tasty-fication of food media in 2019……..BUT THEN it turns out that there already **is** a Salty magazine as of 2018, and, guys, this is not a good look for Ev. (Full thread from @Saltyworldbabes here)

Tl;dr, Salty (saltyworld.net) launched last year as an indie online mag covering sexuality and relationships through the perspective of female, trans and non-binary writers, and they are PEEVED because come on, A) how could you NOT do a quick Google check of your new publication name, B) sure, no one owns the word “salty” but the optics are just not good for a white dude-led platform and a white-dude led publication to be doing this, and C) ummm even the branding is kind of similar?

^^ new logo for Salty, the Medium vertical.
And like, MAYBE if this shit were coming from a competing indie mag, it would be a little more forgivable. But Medium has a storied history of being all like ~love 2 support small publications~ and then bailing, so you might say that this is just………………………………………………………..rubbing salt in the wound???
