RT → NYT to Trump, "STFU"
In case you missed the New York Times’ mega sass re: Trump finally admitting that like, ok fine, our current president was actually born here, it’s worth a read — especially followed by The Atlantic’s analysis & congratulatory cheer on someone in the media actually standing up to Trump at last.
It’s nuts to think about what journalistic standards might look like after this election/Lies R Us 2k16. Like, do we keep teaching the next generation of j-school kids that getting quotes from both sides is still going to be enough? Or do we reevaluate how we define being “fair and balanced” and realize journalists have a duty to be not so much as ~information gatekeepers~ as they need to be WWE referees??
Also good for a nice, long read: Andrew Sullivan, one of the web's OG bloggers, wrote New York Mag’s cover story (NY Mag really killin’ it on these media-themed thinkpieces!) on how technology & the information firehose may be killing us all slowly inside. I usually avoid these kinds of “Twitter is rotting our minds” type pieces because I always read them with my mom’s voice in my head, but like fuck, maybe Mom is right???
