You’ve got to read this Quartz investigation on how Facebook’s Trending Bar ~probably~ works, especially because it’s this great extended metaphor on how we’re all inmates in the prison/asylum of Facebook, which is some autumnal af food for thought.
The whole “Is Facebook a media company” debate is getting tricky — and the new norm in a world so easily digitized (and monetized), where everyone and their mother is gunning for eyeballs/clicks. Like, tbh, we’re all just prokaryotes drifting in a primordial soup of content at this point.
More uplifting news: Cosmo’s Joanna Coles was just named Hearst’s chief content officer, which is awesome! Can always use some more ladiez in the upper C-suite echelon of media, eh???
