When it comes to reporting on Trump’s Zero Tolerance immigration policy, ProPublica has been taking the investigative lead — you heard the audio clip, now check out this ghastly report on what it’s like to work at a shelter for immigrant kids, as well as a collaborative Google maps project mapping out said shelters across the U.S.
It’s all super important work, and we’re looking forward to how they’ll be tracking their impact on these stories. Besides releasing an annual report, ProPublica also regularly publishes “profiles” on their site of people directly affected by their investigative work (scroll down on that impact page). It might seem a little navel-gazey at first glance, but remember: nonprofit publications have to impress big donors for their livelihood, and what better way than to use those already award-winning narrative storytelling chops to do so?
