pick your player: crane wife or cat person?
Two pieces of storytelling that stuck with us over the weekend while we caught up with the internet: the first, of course, is The Crane Wife essay published in The Paris Review from a few weeks ago that’s the latest breathlessly recommended must-read (something about zoomorphism-titled relationship pieces seem to be a literary sweet spot lately??). It’s equal parts sweet and alarming, but what we love most are the characters that author CJ Hauser sketch out in such a short space (this is just to say: Warren!!!!!!).
The second is also a Twittersphere-fueled piece from VICE: I Found NYC's In-N-Out Burger and Solved the Mystery of How It Got There and althoouuuuuuuuugh we’re not trying to quibble too much with what’s overall a funny adventure through time and space and fast food love, would just like to point out that the author didn’t exactly “solve the mystery” himself; a more accurate headline would be “I Found NYC’s In-N-Out Burger And After Tweeting About It, The Person Actually Responsible Reached Out To Me On Her Own And Here Are The Screenshots Of What We Talked About” lest you think some actual Hardy Boys shit went down, ‘cause lol no. ‘Twas a good story, though.
(h/t to Natalie for reminding us to read crane wife!!)
