Petri does it again (and again!)
This election psycho — I mean, uh, cycle — is getting to be a real make-or-break situation for media peeps, but one particular writer who’s somehow been able to rise above the easy jokes and turmoil over and over is the Washington Post’s Alexandra Petri, who is basically reinventing the art of political parody over there.
Her latest: a rewrite of “The Great Gatsby,” starring Trump, Hillary and #abeautifullittlefool named America. Find a way around that WaPo paywall if you can; it’s a must-read.
Other media news: this Fast Company profile on Pocket, the app that lets you save all the links you want to (but never really get around to) read, looks at how the platform/publisher relationship has fucked a lot of shit up, but maybe Pocket is the one who can help turn it around? Seems a bit too optimistic IMO, but I do highly recommend the app as a way to optimize subway time & pretend like you’re better read than you actually are.
And finally: an NPR rundown of the real stories behind “The Good Girls Revolt,” which I want to binge this weekend if I can get some Amazon Prime connex. Was also an interesting read because I actually didn’t know who Grace Gummer was related to??
