on #trendy personal finance
A perennial Deez obsession: personal finance blogs/verticals written for actual real young people who like sushi but also the idea of retirement — because one day, this 9 to 5 thing ends, right? (pause here to scream into the void: RIGHT?!!?)
The latest I’ve stumbled across is the epically named Bitches Get Riches blog, written by two millennials who graduated in 2009 and have lived through some Peak Recession Nightmare type fuckery. Most relevant to media types are their posts on Romanticizing the Side Hustle, Santa isn’t coming and neither is your promotion, and Dafuq is a retirement plan and why do you need one?
All good, manageable tough-love-but-also-fun-gifs reads no matter your profession, but definitely EXTRA important if you’re living the lean mean media life.
Plus, this is an interesting #content area to watch, as outlets all over are really waking up to the fact that millennials = maybe less-informed but still money-makin part of our workforce. See: the success/rise of blogs/verticals like The Awl’s The Billfold, Marketwatch’s Moneyish, About.com’s The Balance, and even Refinery29’s Money Diaries. Which ones have I left out?
