Ok what is going on at Kickstarter???
The weird anti-union shadiness that Kickstarter’s been embroiled in since last spring just got even shadier according to this VICE report about the company hiring a law firm that explicitly offers expertise in “maintaining a union-free workplace,” a move that is as subtle as googling “how to break up with your SO” mid-conversation.
This October article from the NYT has a fuller picture of all the events that have happened (it starts, as all post 2016 narratives seem to, with the question of punching Nazis), but I will also leave this link here for you in case you want (though maybe do NOT open on your giant work monitor).
Anyway, watch this space because the vote count for Kickstarter’s union election is Feb. 18, and it’ll be verrrry interesting to see if the self-described ”public benefit corporation” will end up as the first major tech company to unionize its white collar jobs or not.
