Now here’s one “why i’m leaving new york” essay i’ll def read
Whoa whoa whoa whoa, Adam Moss is leaving New York after being the mag’s longest-serving editor for 15 years?? It’s def. the end of an era, though we’d posit that Moss’ tenure at the magazine will actually be best remembered for how well a ~legacy~ magazine rolled with the digital punches better and faster than anyone.
There’s a good summary of how he grew the title into a collection of internet cool kid titles in his good-bye announcement, but we also love this old Longform interview from 2016, which reveals so much of his thoughtful vision and more about the behind-the-scenes work of being an editor than you’d find anywhere else. Who do you guys think will step up for the job next??
