The announcement of the MacArthur Genius Grant winners this year came with a little less Hamilton & Ta-Nehisi Coates fanfare, but the 2016 geniuses (genii?) are worth scoping out all the same — especially, excitingly enough, Sarah Stillman, a seriously inspiring 32-year-old longform journalism at The New Yorker (here’s her staff page link).
Homegirl covers your typical clickbait fluff — Ebola, migrant abduction, criminal justice, race relations and polio, for a start — and so it’s amazing to see not only a woman in the media #recognized alongside scientists and artists, but especially someone who’s dedicated her career early on to the p. thankless task of journalisming the messiest & realest topics out there. Gurlllll, get ‘em.
Other things I’m reading: This HuffPost Highline piece on Clinton’s intense policy team (aka the Hermione Grangers of this election), and of course, a poetic lil’ parody of ~la vida Tinder~, because Fridays are nothing if not for reading dating app thinkpieces.
