Not one but TWO cool projects to keep on your radar this summer what a STEAL
People/devotees of Washington, D.C., listen up: there’s a new indie magazine coming to you, and it’s called Summerhouse, and it’s started by the brilliant Michelle Delgado*, and its first issue will include “10 wildly original reported stories about everything from the city’s sideshow culture to lawyers who moonlight as tarot readers,” and it’s going to need your help on Kickstarter starting August 1, so smash their follow button and keep up!!
And New Yorkers, don’t worry, we’ve always got one for you, too: The City (that new local journo spot with the pigeon mascot and probably nightmarish SEO problem) is launching an Open Newsroom project with the Brooklyn Public Library that’s effectively a big library listening tour around the borough used to figure out how to “create a different model for sharing and participating in local news and information” (and fo course, out-scoop and outdo out the other local NY outlets).
It’s one of those projects that sure sounds cute and great, but as The City engagement editor Terry Parris Jr. tweeted, they’re putting in the work so that it’s less of a ~mine readers for free ideas~ situation and more of a genuine, long-term effort to serve their community. We’re planning to check out one of their sessions ASAP — let us know if you go, too!
**P.S. Deez Links is off for the week so we can go hang out on a farmstay in Maryland for the holiday (airbnb is wild you guys) — we’ll be back Tuesday, July 9!**
