This edition of Deez Links is brought to you by Aura. My parents are moving out of my childhood home right now, and they're digging up so many great old photos that they're sharing with me on my Aura digital picture frame. I got my mom a frame too, and it's been very fun to add my photos in the app for her to see. Right now, you can get $40 off their Carver Mat 10" frame with code SUBSTACK.
CULTURED mag’s Cult 100 list is out, and I honestly find that whole franchise rather impressive amongst its cohort of TIME100 imitators for picking some actually relevant people, provoking groupchat fodder, and making a discernible and polished splash online. Not an easy feat! Especially now that Forbes’ 30 Under 30 is universally agreed upon as washed, we’ve needed a good annual ranking to step up and properly rankle us…would that Airmail could make their downtown set list annual…
The real fun, of course, is enjoying the ample material provided for tittering at some of the individual interviews; this excerpt is floating around for widespread castigation, though if you Google a few phrases, you’ll find out it’s from model Meadow Walker (AKA the late Paul ‘I said forget about it, cuh’ Walker’s daughter), so honestly… I kind of excuse it… (also disclaimer…I used to have a column with CULTURED but couldn’t keep it up! Integrate that bias into your worldview however you’d like…)
In case you missed it: the writer of our hit Hate Read “I hate therapy” was Mary H.K. Choi! She elaborates more on that piece and her personal feelings on quitting therapy for her newsletter, which of course you should be reading. Getting to have a blogging legend like Mary hit the ‘stack is a gift to us all.
Lol speaking of hate and also therapy, Pioneer Works got a therapist to moderate a convo between Lauren Oyler and Brandon Taylor, literary faves who have both performed the takedown and been the downtaken, back in December; they just made the transcript available online. This part is particularly withering and delicious….turns out there’s a fate worse than a L.O. pan, which is to be deemed constitutionally incapable of withstanding said L.O. pan:
Derek Guy (@dieworkwear) wrote a feature for Bloomberg about the evolution of the male alpha aesthetic, and I really love the heavy use of illustration and reference images included (the latter being key to why Guy is so good at Twitter) without turning it into a self-indulgent scrollsperience. I think we’re done with scrollsperiences! Just make provide helpful pictures (CC: any article at The New Yorker that talks about fashion or art) and move it along. No one is confusing the act of scrolling for a fun experience anymore…
Recently saved TikToks: (mostly dog & musical children stuff apparently)
