~no escape from reality~

Truly excited to look back on the wreckage of 2017 and tell the grandkids: ok but satire was having a really great moment, even if civil liberties and like, democracy weren’t.

Between the latest SNLaissance / Alexandra Petri’s delightful takedowns over at WaPo / the iconic Borowitz Report, plus Twitter’s better bits, there’s gonna be no shortage of fun & #ironic reading material in the nuclear bunkers — but make sure you don’t miss The Onion’s latest prank that outdoes them all: The Trump Documents, a fake treasure trove of leaked documents from the administration that includes, but is not limited to: coloring pages that serve as Trump's briefings, handwritten letters from Melania and Mad Libs-style executive orders.

The New Yorker has the backstory here, but to give you an idea of the master class artisanship that went into this project, I leave you with this quote:

“Most painstaking of all, after an Onion staffer typed or hand-wrote the documents, another staffer then printed and scanned each of them, one by one, so that they look like ‘real leaked documents.’”

That verisimilitude, tho.
