new york mag's got the best looks

One reason why I’ve been obsessed with New York mag lately is how they keep reinventing ways to think and talk about good clothes within the pages of their print mag, and the feature they did for their annual “Reasons to love New York” issue is such a perfect example. It’s a photo essay of the mostly older and extremely well-dressed denizens of the city’s “sidewalk menagerie,” and of course, the results are excellent. 

Within the same issue, the Look Book section has a whole spread of ~looks~ shot from a doorman union meeting, which again: genius! And so unexpected. (They’ve also done spreads from a facial hair competition and taxi depot.) You might say that New York doesn’t cover fashion so much as it does style, as driven by IRL peacocks and personalities hailing from all walks of life — instead of just fixating on what’s coming from the runway or Instagram or the Kardashians’ klosets. (Though there’s always plenty of room for that, duh, they’re not psychopaths over there.)
