more educational Twitter please?
It’s Twitter mystery threads like this one from early March that restore some semblance of hope in The Swiftly Disintegrating Theory That The Internet Can Be Used For Good, and what I imagine our forefathers/mothers wanted us to use our irresponsibly insane degree of connection for.
Tl;dr, a picture book illustrator named Candace Jean Andersen found an old photo of attendees of a marine biology conference from the 70s — it was pretty much all white dudes, but with one young black woman in attendance. To identify the mystery woman, who turned out to be a museum technician named Sheila, Andersen let (the best of) Twitter do its thing. (For the full rundown, the NYT covered the whole saga yesterday!).
