Media industry got 99 (million?) problems but ideals ain’t one
Every few months, something big and shiny debuts on the media landscape, and like a bunch of caffeinated meerkats, we poke our heads out of the dirt and hyperventilate, maybe this is it! The solution to all of our problems!
Vox Media co-founder Joshua Topolsky thus justly serves up some realness in “Your Media Business Will Not Be Saved,” a Medium post that starts off kind of dark but ends up all idealistic talking about the importance of ~compelling stories~. It’s a good, quick read though, that reminds (/reassures?) us once again that no one has it figured out.
In other industry news: Digiday is starting a magazine to cover the future of media — but it’s like, a QUARTERLY PRINT magazine?!?!?!? Can’t decide if this is a stellar Onion-level joke or actually cleverly subversive. Thoughts?
