lyrics site lessons

Today I’m linking you to this sorta old Slate article on the concept of annotated news, which is being pioneered by the site Genius (my fellow MetroLyrics-era’ internet spawn will remember it as Rap Genius originally), all ostensibly as a nod to the future of internet commenting (especially as the NYT enlists machine learning to manage their comments section because of course they can).
But........... really, I just want to direct you to Genius’ page for our reigning song of summer life, the Despacito Remix, here. Now can we can all together admire A) how far lyrics pages have come since 2005, and also B) wait wow this is some quality content, Genius?? Like, I came here just to check on some (okay, all) of the lyrics against my pre-AP Spanish education, but you’re also giving me a rather illuminating artist Q&A, a recommended video, some track info and a non-terrible ad experience all on one page?? Shit, that’s a better user experience than most (ahem, news) sites could dream of offering.
