love 2 ask polly
That mid-week timing on every new Ask Polly column is some real chef’s kiss material, and now that Polly IRL, aka Heather Havrilesky, has a new book out, we don’t even **have** to wait until next Wednesday for existential fulfillment.
And whether you’ve already got a copy or are also currently duking it out with the 18 gabillion people putting a library hold on it, spend a hot sec with the origin story of the best/only? existential advice column on the ‘net, as told by Havrilesky herself. If you read Polly religiously, you’ll know that she’s a big on ~the process~ and the slow burn re: creative success, so naturally we love that her own journey toward becoming “Ask Polly” is no different.
P.S. If you have time, her Longform interview is great too — she MAYBE POSSIBLY hints that the secret to fashioning a dream job = being purposefully bad at the parts of the job you don’t like. hMmMm.
P.P.S. And, if you’re just now getting on the Polly train, My Broke Boyfriend Wants Us to Live Together — petition to make “Don’t bring him Beyoncé” an official war cry, y/n? — What If I Never Find Love, and My Life Is A Beige Pointless Hellscape are three of our faves.
