Lol did wikipedia write this article
Okay but in all fairness, this WIRED article is right: Wikipedia is the last best place on the internet, somehow maintaining a general level of being Good and Helpful for almost twenty years without notably fucking up elections, foisting megalomaniacal founder personalities upon us, or creating soul-killing content moderation farms (seriously can you imagine how jealous Markie must be of Wikipedia casually out here with a whole self-governing army of VOLUNTEER moderators??).
It’s like if all the culture-defining sites/platforms were your exes, Wikipedia would be the good ex who you’re still actually friends with, the one who was just as ambitious as the other ones (hello, I mean we’re talking about cataloguing and editing breadth of human knowledge here) but they’re perfectly happy to be powered by their own enthusiasm and be entirely unsexy about it — “Wikipedia, in other words, isn't raised up wholesale, like a barn; it's assembled grain by grain, like a termite mound” is a particularly good line here. (Again, imagine literally ANY tech founder today getting excited about incrementalism.) I.e. they did NOT ruin your life/democracy with their delusions of grandeur; they are happy to just be here to help you get your Twilight trivia straight. We absolutely must stan!
Also yes, in case you were wondering, there IS a wikipedia page on Wikipedia. I know, I know, service journalism, etc.
