Let’s talk about Joanna Coles
Consider yourself warned, elitist media snobs and anyone who considers themselves above reading a good sex tips listicle, lest you underestimate the complete force of nature that is Joanna Coles, editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan.
As we live in a time where print magazines regularly just drop dead in the streets, let’s take a moment and acknowledge that Cosmo is a legacy mag that’s doing well. Under Coles’ watch, it’s further adapted deez digital + woke times, notably by:
Building an audience of ~3 million readers a day on Snapchat Discover,
Reporting a casual audience growth of 13 percent across print, desktop, mobile and video over last year*
Scooping up its first National Magazine Award (iz like a magazine Oscar) in 2014, for a guide on birth control
Coles herself was also named last month as Ad Age’s 2015 pick for Editor of the Year and to Snapchat’s board of directors.
Not convinced she’s a boss ass business b yet? I highly recommend this New York Mag profile on her (ughhh she is so feminist so fine) and in place of whatever Netflix show you were gonna binge and forget, this interview where she discusses Snapchat, magazines and sex, duh.
*The mag industry as a whole, FYI, did 7.1 percent
** There is a surprisingly lot in between.
Deez Links is on vacay starting tomorrow through Monday! See you on the other side/in Missouri maybe?
