In praise of The Robyn Plan
Your one-way ticket to banishing that feeling of brain drain today is 1) to finally read that NYT Robyn profile, which will cause all of us, as @nataliedaher7 puts it, to consider deeply “how Robyn apparently only went to therapy or took walks for basically an entire YEAR, then years later gave us ‘Honey.’”
The piece is full of insights on how everyone’s fave sad-dancing queen worked her way in, then out, then back into the spotlight, and honestly, hearing about the profound pause she put on things to just, like, marinate?? and process her life???? It’s enough to quell even the most neurotically prolific of us for a sec and remind us that nothing blooms all the time, most of the work will take place in some nondescript office studio, and we could all do well to adopt a little bit of “The Robyn Plan,” as @juliaccarpeter dubs it.
After reading/weeping/playing “Missing U” for the accompanying vibe, we suggest you 2) queue up this profile on Julia Cameron, who you may know as the woman behind the creative self-help cult fave “The Artist’s Way” (hint: if you’ve heard of people obsessing over “doing their morning pages,” that’s this!), and then maybe 3) make plans to finally order said “Artist’s Way” or, in our case, to finally crack it open. Whether you choose to follow ~The Way~ or The Robyn Plan completely or to make a mix of both rn is a decision that’s all yours.
