i'm going to need more info on this workplace environment, please
It’s equal parts funny and soothing to me that the secret sauce behind the sustained success of Condé Nast’s The World of Interiors — the British print magazine profiled in this NYT piece —gets chalked up to the fact that the outlet’s budget is just like…...pretty low key? Meaning: no florist bills, no equipment rentals, and no lavish spending. Imagine!
There’s an excellent quote about 2/3 of the way in from editor Rupert Thomas where he says, “There’s something better than throwing money at a situation. And that’s throwing thought at it,” and it just made me think well isn’t that nice? Maybe there’s hope for uber-niche print objects after all (or at least, if you live in a country with good newsstand culture).
What I’m way more curious about, though, is the detail about how the The World of Interiors staff is only **13 people,** many of whom have apparently been there for a long time and are “aging happily in place.” Longevity, stability, and job satisfaction in this industry? Ummm tell us more about THAT part, please!
