How do you do, fellow peers??

Just wanna take a moment today to ~genuflect~ on “horizontal networking” — that is, getting to know (and supporting!) people in your same age group/career level.

With all the career blogs & college advisors reminding us that we are simple Pokemon whose sole purpose is to level up, it can feel sort of frivolous to spend time/coffee money on people who aren’t necessarily the big guns (i.e., the type that has hiring power, a verified Twitter status, etc.). Like, isn’t that just called ‘friendship’ and interaction w/the peers???

Yet, ‘tis so so valuable (and markedly easier, IMO, to hang with yer people). Was just thinking about this while listening to this podcast episode of Recode Media with Aminatou Sow (of Call Yr Girlfriend podcast fame) as she talks about starting up the Tech Lady Mafia listserv (can we get this for media mafia folks??) aaaand while working on a project at work that has led me to stumble across this gem. Can’t say much else, but stay tuned~~
