hi digital labor movement! read this!
Everything about this morning’s piece from The Verge about the lives of Facebook content moderators is just fully ghastly and calls into question the real human cost of having a barely civilized internet (you get NINE minutes per day of ‘wellness time’? Employees are literally getting PTSD??).
Now that the digital labor movement is gaining serious traction — most visibly via the very public unionization of your fave newsrooms — it’s worth considering how other parts of the internet labor force who don’t have the Twitter cachet are coping with progressively Black Mirror-esque working conditions and keeping **gestures broadly and distastefully** all of this going.
Anyway, if you don’t have time for the whole article, just scroll down a little for the “key findings” box, which is a smart lil executive summary of all the most shocking parts. Kind of wish more longform pieces did this!!
(P.S. Thanks for coming to our ~Deez Links Turns 3~ birthday party, you guys! We had so much fun celebrating with you! Also welcome & hello to our new subscribers especially all you nice ladies from the bar. Y’all know who you are!!!)
