Today marks the 160th birthday of Employerlantic, or, more commonly known as The Atlantic magazine. Which is a good time as ever to push out the link to this extremely random-looking but exhaustive 1994 history of The Atlantic that weirdly shows up in Google results but like…. Nowhere else?? It’s a mystery.
Anyway, worth a skim for ye literary/magazine nerds, but the tl;dr version is here below, shamelessly screencapped from an email from our EIC to subscribers today (Do me & my marketing ass self a favor and let me assume you all are already devoted subscribers, yes?)
Love this most epic origin story, though I would dare to posit that Harriet probably also had a few other pressing concerns outside of starting a ‘zine with her white guy friends from J-School — namely, writing the novel that would change America/the world??? Just a thought.
