good vs. better meal prep content
What separates good service journalism from great service journalism? Timing & packaging. It’s what makes WaPo’s newish Meal Plan of Action newsletter series a welcome alternative from your* weekly habit of frantically scrolling through all those Pinterest recipes you saved back in the day when you thought you could be a quinoa person, getting overwhelmed, and giving up.
We like that it’s a limited 12-week series because, let’s be honest, most of us are just trying to be normal meal prep people and aren’t gunning for a Michelin star any time soon. Extra points for the newsletter landing in your inbox on Sunday afternoons, and for how one email gives you everything you need for the week.
It’s waaaay better (and prettier) than the NYT’s Cooking newsletter, which basically just links you some thematically related recipes, ?? doesn’t even include that many pics???, and is like okay well good luck you’ll figure it out lol!!!
Compare: This is WaPo’s Meal Prep…
Cute! Bright! Not overwhelming!
Meanwhile, here’s Cooking, which is just an inscrutable wall of text…
Plus an underwear ad?? mmmmm so appetizing.
