get u an editor who can deal with your zany
Right, so I know we already covered the end of The Awl (π π π ), but while in the throes of the flu?? maybe?? still tbd?? earlier this week, I was vibing hard with Heather Havrileskyβs (of Ask Polly fame) homage for The Cut: Writing for the Awl was the best mid-career decisions I ever made.
Stories about what working as a writer in early aughts internet days was like are always fun because it always sounds like such a fun Wild West kind of time, but what Havrilesky says about going into a writing/professional slump and getting bailed out not by more $$$ or a promotion, but an outlet that encouraged her to be zany and great should resonate with anyone in media (or creative) whoβs ever been like ???the fuck am i doing this for again??? Hereβs hoping that you all find your equivalent of an Awl editor in your times of need.
