get thee someone who can seriously fux with your Squarespace
As far as a ~balanced~ media diet goes, reading about influencer culture is like snacking on Veggie Straws. It’s not terribly fulfilling or helpful, but sometimes it does satisfy those random hunger pangs ( i.e., when you gaze sorrowfully at your Insta timeline and wonder if you, an unremarkable plebeian, will be confined forever to the less fun end of capitalism when it looks so freakin’ easy to just ~be~ an influencer).
It’s why we’ve been reading Mariah Smith’s recent pieces for The Cut — My Very Sponsored Birthday Party and the follow-up My Sponsored Birthday Party Made Me Rethink My Dream of Being an Influencer — with interest, especially because Smith is herself a cunningly self-branded media Renaissance woman, having made a name for herself as one of the foremost Kardashian experts on the internet.
tl;dr, if you’re not working for a brand, you ARE the brand. So, freelancers, take heart! Think about yourself as a public-facing company. And get thee someone who can seriously fux with your Squarespace, cause Smith’s website will put all of ours to shame.
