Fashion & empowerment in 2016, plus the one link you need to understand the Fox shitshow
The general opinion on H&M seems to vacillate between A) slight skepticism to full frontal criticism of the whole probs-less-than-sustainable fast fashion thing and B) gratitude for being our salvation in a time of $20 cardigan needs, but what you can’t deny is how refreshing their latest fall fashion spot is. I die. Critics of the commodification of feminism in advertising forget that shit can be salesy and uplifting, IMO (Thanks, Mal, for sending over!!).
More seriously, you have to read New York magazine reporter Gabriel Sherman’s epic cover story on the entire Fox/Roger Ailes/sexual harassment debacle. It’s not only your one-stop-shop for catching up on WTF has been happening, but it also gives a great history lesson on how the Fox News we know & cringe at came to be, some Megyn Kelly career moves to copy (you don’t have to love her politics to admire that ambition), and a broader look at how the conservative media has influenced the election season. And of course, also the poison of a work culture that enables sexual harassment. (Thanks to Brian for reminding me to share this!)
If you love it mega hard, get ahold of Sherman’s book on the entire thing for some Jacques Cousteau level deep divin’.
A note: Thank you a billion galaxies over for reading Deez Links. There’s nothing I love more than being able to share cool shit happening in & around this insane industry and especially getting your guys’ recommended reads right back!
