Even the fiction is getting on that 2017 scary train these days

A mystery for all you Deezers to solve: Can anyone tell me why, exactly, this particular New Yorker short story feels so unsettlingly nonfiction???? Seriously, @ me if you are one of the many who read this and felt wholly unnerved by how this author maybe peered into all of our brains and diaries and captured the seemingly pedestrian horror of relationship power dynamics in just a few thousand words.
