Don’t show him pictures of dogs if you don’t want to b a tease, I guess?
(TinyLetter, not unlike all #yopros this time of year, apparently needed a hot sec to figure her shit out yesterday. Here's a resend of yesterday's issue! apologies if you already got it...)
The Guardian’s “The Web We Want” series should be required reading for anyone purveying and/or engaging in ~internet discourse.~ You’ve probably heard about their giant comments section analysis (“The dark side of Guardian comments”), but I also recommend reading “Swallowing the red pill,” published today.
This article takes a look at what is prob. unarguably the most misogynistic corner of the internet, the Red Pill subreddit, but with a sort of humanizing (or maybe even too forgiving?) perspective that well, really, these men just don’t know how the fuck to handle relationships. Just like us? Idk. The amazonian feminist inside me is like, ok, I see ur point, but also can we take a blowtorch to this subreddit??
It’s also re: the philosophical question that’s plagued us since the invention of AIM: does the internet serve as an outlet for the “other” sides of ourselves? Or is it where our actual, true selves are revealed?
Best line from the piece, though: “She was still giving off signs of interest, notably showing him pictures of her dogs.” Whelp. Now you know, ladies. Hold off on those goldendoodle slideshows until you’re really ready to commit.
Otters it is, then.
