Does anyone feel really soothed by reading sciencey terms over and over rn
Okay, so I really liked this article from Scientific American (which, lol, is not a combination of words we throw around on the reg here at Deez Links), How China’s “Bat Woman” Hunted Down Viruses from SARS to the New Coronavirus, because it answers all the major questions about where the coronavirus likely came and goes into soothingly specific detail about the work that one Wuhan-based virologist has been doing for decades to prepare us all for this moment.
There aren’t any sort of life-saving revelations or even some kind of ra-ra optimism in it, but I do think there’s a helpful difference between bingeing on minute-by-minute developments on Twitter versus activating your biology 101 brain a little bit to understand what’s going on in terms of genetic sequences and antibodies. I want to think it’s the difference between dealing with a mysterious horror movie-esque spook and one we know how to handle.
Hang in there! Also don’t forget there’s a John Legend concert at 4 today on IG!!
