dick jokes, but make them elevated

Over the weekend, we got seriously into Netflix’s American Vandal, a true crime mockumentary with the deadpan DNA of The Office, the dick jokes of some kind of Judd Apatow/Broad City dream mashup, and the calming narrator-ly voice of your fave episode of The Daily podcast. You can find the trailer here.
We love it for its clever subversion of the true crime genre that everyone (think S-town, Serial, Dirty John, etc.)’s all gotten a little too into lately, but also for the way it natively folds in digital “evidence” — in the form of Snapchat “videos,” YouTube culture, and Instagram posts — in a way that feels like an accurate snapshot of modern teen life online. Plus, if anyone’s going to be a sucker for a high school journalist as a protagonist, it’s us, duh.
Check it out if you haven’t (along with this New Yorker piece on it and GQ’s interview with its stars) and let us know what you think!
