coming soon: vom bags for the purist editorial friend in your life
Industry honorary lists are like the grown-up version of high school superlatives, in that they kind of don’t totally matter but damn do/did you have some opinions about them.* But Ad Age’s 40 Under 40 list, which came out yesterday, is especially interesting in that, for a list highlighting the best in marketing, you see not one, not two, but three journalism brands highlighted (and represented by women!): Mic, The Skimm and The Atlantic.**
Just another piece of evidence that these days, even media brands have to think of themselves as brands, with products and content and marketing campaigns and all, (yes, purist editorial friends, I can hear you vomming from here) and they’re giving ad agencies a run for their money while they’re at it!
Alternative reading if you just hate all honorary lists as a principle: “Accomplish Something Past 30? Too Late.”
*Personally still think that Dunlap High School’s best dressed award was a fucking sham.
